Every beginning is difficult.

With the founding of the European Economic Community (EEC), 1957 was a significant year for the economic development of Europe and European integration as a whole. In that year, Ulisse Orlandini left his homeland and set out for Germany to seek a new challenge as a property manager. Upon arriving, he encountered a harsh reality: he had to pick currants in the snow without a jacket or gloves while waiting for the promised workers. When they failed to show up, he decided to take his fate into his own hands.

Ulisse Orlandini was a pioneer in introducing Italian natural stones to Germany. He began as a technical draftsman for an architect, but his interest in the stones of his homeland led him to import the first travertine samples to Germany. His cousin, who owned a quarry, helped him with this. Soon, as the first in Germany, he expanded his range to include Serizzo and Estremoz, two other popular natural stones. To ensure the growing demand, high quality, and short delivery times, he founded two additional companies: Euromarble and Ormar. These companies produced and processed the materials according to customer specifications. Ulisse Orlandini was often found in the quarries of Tuscany near Arezzo, where he selected the finest travertines.
